Groves Park Lodge Long Term Care Facility - Addition
(Phase 1 - 2006, Phase 2 - 2011) Renfrew, Ontario

Richard White Architect/Robertson Martin Architects, Architects in Joint Venture. In 2006, working with Groves Park Lodge staff and managers, the Consultant Team developed a new 1 900 m2 (20 450 sq. ft.) wing attached to the existing 1975 building. The design incorporates a 32-bed Resident Home Area (RHA), plus associated nursing, bathing, dining, recreation, support and storage spaces. Attached to the wing is a new two-storey multi-purpose hall with the ability to be partitioned for a variety of events, both for residents and for the community. In 2011, the original 1975 wing will be demolished and a new 4 366 m2 (47 000 sq. ft.) addition will be built containing 2 additional 32-bed Resident Home Areas (RHAs) and a Services and Commons Wing. The new addition is designed to frame two central ambulatory courtyards for the safe outdoor use of residents with cognitive impairment or dementia. The project will be completed in three phases of demolition/construction to accommodate the continued functioning of the facility.
