Parliamentary Precinct Wellington Wall Infills
Ottawa, Ontario

As a part of a multi-disciplinary team, RMA’s mandate is to provide enhanced perimeter security for Parliament Hill by providing greater containment and control of access routes into the Parliamentary Precinct complex. The work includes the design of infills to the Wellington Street Wall in two locations, flanking the Queen’s Gate, that were opened in 1966 to permit vehicular access. This wall infill consists of both stone wall elements and additional wrought and cast iron pedestrian entrances to Parliament Hill. Security upgrades to existing pedestrian and vehicular entrances, as well as the new proposed entrances, will permit controlled and secure access at these locations. The existing Wellington wall metal work is of the highest quality and said to be among the finest in Canada. The new gate infills should be read in the context of these celebrated artifacts.
