Lansdowne Park Design Competition for New Urban Park
Ottawa, Ontario

RMA was partnered with West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture, which was one of five firms invited to compete for the design of Lansdowne Park’s open space. The bold telescopic treatment of the Aberdeen Pavilion sought to give new life and interest to the Aberdeen Pavilion. The scheme entertains the idea that, as the appreciation of heritage values evolve, historic artefacts can be adapted for new uses. Drawing water into the site references the historical and founding presence of water within the site and makes an aqueous landscape accessible from the Rideau Canal in a unique way. All details, including ornament of furnishings and fixtures are elegantly conceived.
