The Keeler Centre (formerly Colborne Cramahe Arena)
Colborne, Ontario

For this popular new community facility on a greenfield site, this design-build project provided a 8.4m x 16.7m (90 ft x 180 ft) ice pad with 1500 person seating capacity, 6 dressing rooms and a 400 person capacity community hall with the flexibility of being partitioned into two rooms by a movable wall. Notable is the use of a geo-exchange Ice Kube system for the ice-plant; the waste heat is recovered for use in heating the entire building. Other functions consisted of new heated seating, dressing rooms, public washrooms, entry foyer, lobby, administration and food services. In conjunction with client, other model sites of similar scale using geothermal energy sources were studied. RMA acted as Advocate Architect for the client throughout the entire project, which included authoring the performance specifications and outline design parameters for the tendering of a design-build contract and providing support.
